THROUGH THE MOSAIC

“Through the Mosaic” is an attempt at telling a story of Sri Lanka’s journey of becoming what it is today through a major event in its history: Dutch colonization. Buried in bygone centuries, overshadowed at times by other events, its remains still stand tall in our midst, erupting through some of the most bustling parts of the island, reminding us of a complex and fraught past through unique and distinctive architectural elements. “Through the Mosaic” is inspired by such architectural elements, particularly those found in Dutch Reformed churches across the country.

The quilted fabric made using off-cuts plays with depth and perspective in a way that references the stained glass windows of these churches, which is not only a creative decision but also an attempt at creating a zero waste collection.
